Raw Material
Copper
|
| |

The tin and are
copper are melted and blended together to form a bronze disc of the required dimension.
|

The
bronze disc is fired in a
charcoal fire for several minutes then
removed from the fire using tongs. |
| |

The
hot
bronze disc is placed on a bed of sand and
hammered into shape using wooden hammers.
|

The
bronze disc
is fired and hammered, again and again. |
| |

Once the disc is
hammered to the required shape and size, the
bronze
gamelan
gong is immersed in water to cool.
|

The
bronze
gamelan
gong is then tuned, by placing of pieces of clay onto the gong and
hammering it in specific places until the correct note is achieved.
|
| |

The
bronze gamelan
gong is then polished using a file. |

Only the centre of the
gamelan gong is polished on the 'black'
bronze gamelan gongs. |

The whole of the gong is
polished on the 'golden'
bronze gamelan gongs.
