Stone wall relief carvings have been used in temple design in Java for centuries. The  Prambanan Temple in Central Java, built in the 9th century has a central Shiva Temple 47 meters in height, with 20 sides. It has beautifully carved  stone relief panels on all its 20 sides, depicting the story of the Ramayana. If you enter from the east side of the temple and walk around, the story of the Ramayana reveals itself on lava stone relief panels on the outer walls of the Shiva temple. The story is completed on lava stone relief panels on the Brahma temple. The story of the Ramayana depicts how the wife of Prince Rama, the devoted Sita, is abducted by the demon king Ravana from Lanka. Prince Rama, accompanied by the monkey king Hanuman and his army of monkey soldiers travel to Lanka, and battle with Ravana and rescue Sita. The Ramayana Ballet is performed at night in the Prambanan Temple  with a backdrop setting of the main three temples.

In Chinese mythology,  the sacred bird Feng Huang (Red Bird, Chinese Phoenix)   in the south, who was given control over summer and the Gold Dragon special duty was to guard the sun. The Dragon (representing the male aspect) and Phoenix (representing the female aspect) signifies union and wedded harmony.
